Domani it will be a complicated day for those traveling by public transport. Not only in Milan, where the November 7 ATM strike threatens to paralyze trams, buses and subways, but throughout Italy. The inconvenience will be widespread and the ones who will pay the price, as often happens, will be above all commuters, students, workers who rely on public transport to get around every day. But behind this difficult day there is a wider fracture, which concerns the increasingly tense relationship between those who guarantee the service and those who manage it.

Strike on 7 November 2025: transport at risk

In the Lombardy capital, the AL Cobas union has proclaimed a strike involving all Atm staff. according to what was communicated by the company, the vehicles may not circulate from 8.45am to 3.00pm and then again from 6.00pm until the end of the service. The only time slots in which the service will be guaranteed are those in the early morning (6:00–8:45) and in the afternoon (3:00–6:00 pm). The conditional, however, is a must because, as happens in every strike, the actual participation of the staff is never certain until the day itself. Suburban and interurban lines will also undergo variations: in central hours, those who need to move will have to rely on regional trains, car sharing or other alternative means.

The reasons for the protest: safety, wages and public management

The strike does not arise only from organizational issues. The demands also affect the daily lives of workers: there is talk of staff shortages, holidays not taken, heavy shifts and excessive use of overtime. We ask for a salary increase of 150 euros net for everyone, the possibility of transforming part-time contracts into full-time upon request, and compliance with European regulations on holidays.

Strikes also on highways and railways

The strike on November 7 is not limited to the Milanese urban network. In Lombardy, Autostrade per l’Italia staff will fold their arms on the second Milan sectionwhich includes fundamental routes such as the A1 towards Parma, the A4 towards Brescia, the A8 towards Varese and the A9 towards Chiasso. There are three abstention time slots: from 2:00 to 6:00, from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 18:00 to 22:00. For offices, the strike concerns the last four hours of the shift.

Stop railway procurement personnel in Lazio

In Lazio, the strike concerns railway procurement staff Coopservice, which deals with cleaning and ancillary services for Trenitalia. No direct impacts on train circulation are expected, but there may be inconveniences related to the cleaning of convoys and support services.

Sicily and Latina: local transport at risk

Even the South is not spared. In PalermoAMAT staff will strike in two periods: from 8.30am to 5.30pm and from 8.30pm to 11.59pm. In Messina, the agitation will last four hours, from 4pm to 8pm. In Latinathe strike will involve CSC Mobilità in three windows: start of service – 6.30am, 9.30am – 1.30pm and 4.30pm – end of service.

Transport strike: repeat at the end of the month

As if that wasn’t enough, a second ATM strike has already been announced for Sunday 30 Novemberthis time organized by the Confial-trasporti union. The abstention from work will last four hours, from 8.45 to 12.45, and will once again involve the staff of local public transport in Milan. In conclusion, November 7th will be a day to be approached carefully. For those who have to travel, the advice is simple: inform yourself, anticipate movements and consider alternative solutions. Because public transport, today more than ever, is also a question of rights.
