“Very special constellation”
SC Freiburg can also count on the services of successful coach Christian Streich in the coming season. On Tuesday, the Bundesliga club announced the extension with the 57-year-old and his team. As usual, the Breisgauer did not provide any information about the duration of the new contracts.
“We are really happy to be able to continue working in this very special constellation in terms of content and people,” said board member Jochen Saier on the sports club’s homepage. “The coaching team around Christian Streich works day after day with great attention to detail and with maximum commitment on the development of our team. We are staying on our path and will continue this very trusting and successful cooperation beyond the current season.”
Streich has held various positions at the club since 1995 and took over as head coach in December 2011. In the Bundesliga, no other coach is longer in office, in the top European leagues only Diego Simeone from Atlético Madrid has surpassed the mark by six days.

In a total of 430 games with Freiburg, Streich collected an average of 1.46 points. In the current season, SC is in fifth place after 24 matchdays with 45 points and is represented in the DFB Cup and the Europa League. Streich himself said of his signature: “It’s nice that we still like coming to the coaching office and maintaining an open and honest exchange. The constellation here is special and it is a pleasure for me to be able to continue working at this club together with my coaching colleagues.”
