Straubing Tigers stay on top

The Straubing Tigers remain on the heels of the top duo Eisbären Berlin and Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).

In their first game of the new year, Lower Bavaria won against the Augsburg Panthers 4:1 (2:0, 1:1, 1:0) and consolidated their third place in the table. Straubing is now ten points behind Berlin and seven behind Bremerhaven.

Former Augsburg player Michael Clarke (12th, 53rd), long-time NHL professional Justin Braun (19th) and Sandro Schönberger (38th) scored the 22nd win of the season in the 34th game for the Tigers. As twelfth in the table, Augsburg is nine points ahead of bottom-placed Iserlohn Roosters.

Meanwhile, the Grizzlys Wolfsburg ended their series of defeats with a 3:2 (2:0, 0:2, 1:0) at the Löwen Frankfurt. The match winner was Andy Miele, who scored the decisive goal for Wolfsburg 3.4 seconds before the end.

With their first win after four defeats, the Grizzlys jumped to sixth place. Frankfurt’s negative streak, however, continues: The Lions have only won one of the last twelve games, and after a good start to the season, Frankfurt is only eleventh.
