“Confirmity Gate” theory in circulation
The hit Netflix series “Stranger Things” came to an end on January 1st, 2026 with the eighth episode of the final fifth season. In the two-hour finale, the group of friends came together to finally defeat the monster Vecna. Many fans watched spellbound and couldn’t wait for the final episode.
Shortly after the showdown, however, some fans seem to have not yet finished with the mystery series. Parts of the supporters are firmly convinced that it wasn’t. The “Confirmity Gate” theory is now circulating on platforms such as Reddit and threads. This states that there must be a secret ninth episode of the fifth season and is based on the fact that the finale is intentionally misleading.
What is the theory about?
In detail, the theory is based on the epilogue of the eighth episode. In this one there is a time jump of 18 months and you see the group of friends getting together for a final round of Dungeons and Dragons. The fate of the character Eleven is left open.
According to Confirmity Gate, this epilogue presents a false reality in which Vecna’s influence has not been broken. The group is therefore living in an illusion. Fans particularly point to the symmetry in the final scenes and the characters breaking the fourth wall. They also refer to a strangely “normal” feeling in the final epilogue.
Representatives of the theory are firmly convinced that there must be a ninth episode, which is expected to take place on January 7th, 2025. There has been no comment from Netflix or the Duffer brothers on the speculation.
Reactions from the cast and makers to rumors
At the end of December, Randy Havens, one of the stars of the series, commented on the rumor that there was an unpublished final cut of the fifth season. “There is no Snyder Cut of the series, please don’t believe everything some idiot on the internet tells you,” he said.
There is still no reaction from the cast or showrunners about the new fan theory. It is obvious that there is nothing to this either.
