Netflix shows new teaser for “Stranger Things Tales From ’85”: The animated spin-off from the Duffer brothers starts in April. Eleven, Mike and Co. return.
The successful series “Stranger Things” continues to be told, but in animated form. Netflix has now released a teaser for the animated version that announced the start date: Fans of the original can expect new material from Hawkins as early as spring 2026.
Old characters, new monsters
The two-minute video clip from the spin-off reveals that the series heroes Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas and Max have found their way back to a normal 80s teenage life between Dungeons & Dragons and snowball fights after the adventurous events of the first two seasons.
Because: The story takes place between the second and third seasons and takes place in the middle of a snowstorm in the winter of 1985, as the creators of the series Matt and Ross Duffer announced earlier via an announcement on the streaming platform. According to the teaser, popular characters such as Jim Hopper, Nancy Wheeler and Steve Harrington are also represented.
The seemingly normal lives of the six friends are once again interrupted by supernatural creatures. A threat to the entire city arises beneath the ice – but it is not clear from the newly released video footage whether the new monsters are remnants from the Upside Down, creations from the Hawkins Laboratory or a previously unknown source. The gang gets support from the young inventor Nikki Baxter, who makes her debut in the clip.

No voice stays the same
Another new feature: The voices of the series characters will be recast in the English-language original and in the German translation. Brooklyn Davey Norstedt voices Eleven, Luca Diaz lends his voice to Mike, Ben Plessala Will, Braxton Quinney Dustin, Elisha Williams Lucas, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport Max and Brett Gipson takes on the role of Hopper.
The offshoot of the “Stranger Things” universe with a cartoon look will be available on the streaming service from April 23rd.
Duffer brothers in their producer era
In addition to “Stranger Things Tales From ’85,” the siblings are working on two other projects that will also debut on Netflix. One is “The Boroughs” and the other is “Something Really Bad Is Gonna Happen”. For fans of the series, which ended on New Year’s Day, the former is particularly interesting, as it could be a kind of reverse “Stranger Things”.
The new Netflix series “The Boroughs” will not be about children, but about a group of seniors who will also be exposed to a monstrous threat. This will try to steal the protagonists’ remaining time. However, the brothers only work as executive producers on the series.
Matt and Ross Duffer are also involved in another project as executive producers. “Something Really Bad Is Gonna Happen” will be about a young couple who are about to get married. However, what exactly it will be about is not yet known. The eight-episode miniseries will debut on Netflix in March 2026.
