Strand6Daagse runs smoothly: “Beautiful weather, low water: it is walking for beginners!”

The fifth stage of the Strand6Daagse is already over. Hundreds of walkers walked from Egmond to Callantsoog today during the 63rd edition of the annual walking tour. A route over the beach of 160 kilometers from Hoek van Holland to Huisduinen/DenHelder. “They say I’m crazy at home, but I just do it.”

The high tide line is creeping up at Callantsoog. It is choosing; soggy wet sand or the loose sand where all the bathers lie. With only a few hundred meters to the beach entrance, Rianne van Gorp takes off her shoes and walks the last bit through the water. She is walking along for the first time and comes from Kaatsheuvel. She jokes: “This is definitely not a fairytale, or it must be a bad one. We had to walk a lot at an angle so my feet are very tired.”

Two walkers have already taken an entrance to the beach earlier. “That’s easier. We know it here, because we come from Den Helder. We walk home,” laughs Ronald Grippeling. “We’ve had a lot of low water, little rain. Actually, walking is for beginners.” His hiking buddy Edwin Schiphof also acknowledges this: “We’ve had storms and rain once, so in that regard it’s a breeze in terms of weather.”

Tomorrow the finish is in Huisduinen near Den Helder. Then we look at next year’s edition. Even debutante Rianne van Gorp from Kaatsheuvel: “We would go with my entire football team, but there are only two of us. My daughter also wants to come, so I am curious whether I will be here next year with my daughter or with my team.”
