Storm Eunice claims fifth life: motorist died who got a tree on the car in Amstelveen

The man who got a tree on his car during storm Eunice in Amstelveen last Friday and became trapped, has died as a result of that accident.

His cousin informs NH Nieuws. The victim – in his seventies – was driving his car on Olympiadelaan when a tree fell on his car. The man was trapped and firefighters arrived on the scene to free him. It took firefighters about an hour before he was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

According to the victim’s nephew, the man’s death was a result of his injuries sustained during storm Eunice. “He had a bruised sternum, a heart contusion and four broken neck vertebrae. He still had surgery, but the chance that he would be paralyzed was very high. He was still approachable on Sunday, but then it deteriorated. Yesterday there was another one. got over a heart attack.”

Earlier this week, the municipality of Amstelveen announced that the victim was out of danger, based on information from the police. For privacy reasons, the police and the municipality do not want to confirm that the victim has died.
