In South and North Holland and Flevoland, code yellow applies until 10 a.m. For Friesland and Groningen this remains the color code until 12 noon and for the Wadden area the KNMI warns with code yellow all day long.
The KNMI warns that traffic on the coast in particular may still be affected by the wind on Friday. The gusts of wind come from a westerly direction and have a speed of 75 to 100 kilometers per hour.
‘Busy period’
The North Holland North Safety Region had “had a busy period on Thursday evening due to storm Benjamin, with quite a few reports and many deployments from the fire brigade that were related to storm damage.”
This involved, for example, roof tiles blown off, which meant that a section of the road had to be closed off, and trees blown over on the A7, which meant that a lane at Purmerend and an exit at Wognum were closed for a while. A scooter rider had also collided with a fallen tree. “It was not a regular Thursday evening,” the spokesperson noted.
The Rotterdam-Rijnmond Safety Region was ‘slightly busier than normal’ on Thursday evening due to Storm Benjamin. “But it’s nothing we can’t handle,” a spokesperson said. “We knew the storm was coming.”
‘Reasonably quiet’
The Haaglanden Safety Region had a ‘reasonably quiet’ time during storm Benjamin, a spokesperson said. There were about twenty cases of storm damage, which according to the spokesperson is ‘little’.
