Stolen car taken off the road after chase at 200 kilometers per hour

The traffic police took a stolen Belgian car off the road on Thursday. After the driver received a traffic signal from the police, he took off at speeds that regularly exceeded 200 kilometers per hour. During that wild ride he hit another car and a police car. The suspect still had a prison sentence in the Netherlands and Belgium.

On Thursday, the police drove on the A16 highway near Moerdijk where they saw a stolen Belgian car driving. Police gave chase and found that the driver of the stolen vehicle was driving ‘nervously’. He constantly changed speed and unnecessarily changed lanes several times, the Southwest Brabant Traffic Police reported on Instagram.

The assistance of the National Expertise and Operations Unit was then requested. This gave the driver a follow-up signal at the Prinsenbeek exit. A police car drove to his left to prevent him from leaving. According to police, the driver suddenly accelerated and ‘swerved abruptly to the left’, hitting the police car.

Driver rammed regular road user
After this, a chase ensued in the direction of Belgium, with speeds regularly exceeding 200 kilometers per hour. In Belgium the driver rammed another vehicle of a regular road user.

The driver surrendered to the Dutch police in Maria-Ter-Heide near Antwerp, after which he was handed over to their Belgian colleagues. It turned out that the suspect still had an outstanding prison sentence in the Netherlands and Belgium. As soon as the Belgian police have finished with him, he will be transferred to the Netherlands to serve his sentence here. A report is also drawn up of his driving behavior.
