VfL Wolfsburg goalkeeper Stina Johannes experienced a bitter “premier league” evening due to a kick from an opponent. Now she showed herself after the treatment.
She can smile again: German national goalkeeper Stina Johannes showed off her black eye on Instagram. The Wolfsburg native suffered the injury in her club’s Champions League duel with Real Madrid (0-2). She was hit in the face by Spain’s Iris Ashley’s foot. Now Johannes reported personally on her club’s profile.
In a video, the goalkeeper says: “Hey guys, I wanted to thank you for all your well wishes. I’m doing well so far, it left a few marks, but otherwise everything is okay.”
Johannes’ eye is visibly blue and swollen. You can see on the nose that a cut had to be stitched. She also has some scratches around the eye.
After the scene with Ashley, Johannes continued playing while her opponent had to leave the pitch after a VAR check. However, VfL Wolfsburg is already safely through despite the defeat against Real.
