Jonathan Cain, Journey’s keyboardist, has floated the possibility that former vocalist Steve Perry could join in for a guest appearance during their final concert tour.
The Final Frontier Tour begins February 28, 2026 in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The first leg includes 60 concerts in North America and ends on July 2, 2026 in Laredo, Texas.
In an interview with Ultimate Classic Rock, Cain revealed that bandmate Neal Schon had already asked Perry if he wanted to accompany them on a leg of their big tour. “I hope he comes,” said Cain. “It’s never too late. We have 100 concerts, so he’s welcome at every single one of them.”

Journey comeback: Joe Perry wants to think about it
Perry (ranked 76th in our list of the best singers of all time) is said to already be thinking about it. Although this statement is of course not a promise, the keyboardist is cautiously optimistic: “He didn’t say no – let’s leave it at that.”
Perry was the lead singer of Journey during their huge, influential period from 1978 to 1987. He fronted again in 1995 to 1998. Independent of Journey, Perry also managed a solo career. The first solo album “Street Talk” was released in 1984. “Seasons” was most recently released in 2021.
The Filipino singer Arnel Pineda has been with Journey since 2007 and is regarded internally as a “singing machine”. Although he has problems with the justice system in his homeland, the band says he will be available for the tour.
Confusion about Jonathan Cain
Last fall, Jonathan Cain briefly caused confusion when guitarist Neal Schon announced his departure. Just hours later, Cain contradicted himself and stated through a spokesman that he was by no means turning his back on the band. Between 2022 and 2024, Schon and Cain sued each other several times – including over financial disputes.
Apparently the musicians are trying to pull themselves together to do one last big round with Journey. A return by Steve Perry – even if it would only last for one appearance – would fit in well with this.
