Victoria Carl, 30, has been suspended since last summer.
Victoria Carl has been banned from competition since the summer. PDO
German skiing star Victoria Carl gave a doping sample last June that contained clenbuterol ie anabolic steroid. The woman was immediately suspended from competition.
According to Carl, the substance had ended up in his system from the cough medicine he had received in Switzerland from an army doctor already in March.
The German Anti-Doping Association (Nada) has been investigating the case since the summer, but now the situation has taken a new turn. of SVT according to Nada has asked the world anti-doping agency Wada for help in the investigation.
Swedish anti-doping expert Jessica Wissman believes that with the new twist, a mediation solution will be sought in the case. For example, Carl could try to blame the doctor who gave him cough medicine. There will still be a sanction.
– It’s hard for me to see that he didn’t have any responsibility, Wissman says.
The standard punishment for using Clenbuterol is a four-year ban from competition.
However, Carl and his supporters may seek a similar settlement with Wada as the tennis star Jannik Sinner. In March 2024, the Italian complained about Klostebol, which, like Clenbuterol, is an anabolic steroid.
Instead of a four-year ban, Sinner got away with a three-month ban when he settled the matter with Wada. According to Sinner, klostebol had gotten lost in his system through the physiotherapist.
In his career, Carl has won, among other things, Olympic gold in the pair sprint and Olympic silver in the relay. At the World Championship level, he has relay silver and bronze.
