The ‘looting couple’ should therefore not come around the exchange box for fourteen days. Bewelener Stephanie is happy with it, but not completely reassured. “What if the ban has ended and they come back?”
Many fellow blikers use Stephanie’s exchange and giveaway: since 2023 it has been on the sidewalk on Kanaalstraat in front of her house. Every day all kinds of products are used, exchanged or removed such as tin soup, sanitary napkins and bags of pasta.
She does it all to help poorer residents from the neighborhood. But the cupboard has lately been the target of a looting couple, which, according to the police in Medemblik, causes more nuisance.
“We know who they are, but they refuse any form of help. Also from the municipality. That makes it difficult”, “, Stephanie told then.
After several looting, the cupboard was even removed a few months ago, which led to the necessary sorrow. For example, a regular customer – a woman in a difficult situation – went wrong. “I know she’s having a lot of time at the moment,” she said After closing the cupboard. “I gave her a bag and asked her to fill it with what she could use.”
Area ban for two weeks
The size was apparently full for the municipality of Medemblik. A spokesperson informed NH that the mayor has established an area ban for ‘two people who have been causing a nuisance in the vicinity of the cabinet for a long time’. Whether it is actually the couple that Stephanie was talking about, the municipality cannot say privacy reasons.
The perpetrators in question may not be in the Streets Kanaalstraat, Meerlaan, Graaf Florislaan, Sonoystraat and Waterborg.
