Next March, a whole month of layoffs will begin for 2,260 workers Mirafiori. Stellantis communicated to the unions that production will not be stopped completely, but will suffer severe limitations. In particular, the assembly lines of the models of Maserati and of Electric Fiat 500 they will work on a single shift. This measure is the second of 2024 and adds to the one already announced a few weeks ago which will come into force from February 12 to the 3rd March always for the body shop workers at the Turin plant. The production block was announced by Fiom. The motivation provided by the company was linked to the need to adapt the production flows of the assembled cars to the transitory trend of market demand.

The unions

The unions’ response is ready with the comment of Sara Rinaudo, territorial secretary Fismic Confsal of Turin: “It is a new sign of the continuation of the period of suffering for Mirafiori. We are well aware of the ongoing strategic plan of Stellantis, which has always claimed to focus on Mirafiori, but we note with regret the period of difficulties that the site is facing at the moment, in particular the body shop; difficulties that we will try to manage as best we can to minimize the impact on the workers and their wages. We hope that the government’s intervention, with the new incentive plan, supports the recovery of the market. We need collaboration in synergy with the Region to protect the territory.” Edi Lazzi, general secretary of the Turin-based Fiom states: “Another ultra-negative data from the phase we are going through. There are many signs that make our wrists tremble”. Also alarmed Uilm Turin: “We are very worried because this redundancy fund is added to what already exists. What we have – he underlines Luigi Paonesecretary of the Turin Uilm – it’s not enough, we need a new model immediately”. Finally, for Rocco Cutrìgeneral secretary of the Fim Cisl of Turin: “It is proof of the unfortunately negative forecast. The issue has come home to roost. The Mirafiori case must be of national importance, the establishment must be put in a position to have prospects”.
