Finally singing with Elvis, Whitney, Amy and Freddie. Not only many in-the-shower singers have this dream, but also the postars of our time. Some of them, including the No Angels, Alvaro Soler, Samu Haber and Sasha, now have the opportunity to do so. From Saturday (April 25th), ProSieben will be showing the new show “Staying Alive – Stars sing with legends” (streamed on Joyn). A week later, on May 2nd, there will be another episode.
What happens? Using our own technology, music icons such as Freddie Mercury and Whitney Houston are brought onto the stage. But they don’t stay there alone. There is a duel between generations. The station has already announced that the No Angels will sing their hit “Daylight in Your Eyes” with Elvis Presley. Sasha and Amy Winehouse belt out “I feel lonely.” Samu Haber ventures on stage with Freddie Mercury for “Fairytale Gone Bad”. And Alvaro Soler presents his song “Sofía” together with Whitney Houston.
In addition, some of the great songs by the musicians who have been brought back to life will of course also be celebrated. Which? This is still secret at the moment.
The goosebumps could quickly become a guarantee of embarrassment
As always with TV events of a similar nature, the audience ultimately decides who delivered the duet of the evening and won. The show is moderated by “The Voice of Germany” veteran Thore Schölermann, who also said when asked about the media presentation of the stars who are no longer with us: “Don’t ask how it works. It works.” The moderator also guarantees goosebumps – and in the trailer you can see numerous participants in tears.
It is still completely unclear how the TV experiment will work and what effect it will have. Hologram concerts have no longer been a sensation since ABBA in London. But the principle is completely different and there are no duets between “computer characters” and people.
The fact is that “Staying Alive” is a show produced by Endemol Shine Germany in Germany with its own technology, about which nothing is really known yet. ProSieben is apparently relying on the overwhelming effect.
However, if the portrayal of the stars is less convincing than it appears in the first pictures, the act could backfire. It cannot be ruled out that the format is unpleasant because there are moments of embarrassment with the images of the music greats or that all of this seems like it disturbs the peace of the dead.
“Staying Alive” – brilliant or just embarrassing? You will be able to see it starting next Saturday.
