De Nederlandsche Bank recently called for old notes. For a five-guilder ticket with Vondel on, you will receive 2.27 euros back until 1 May and a 25-guilder ticket with Sweelinck yields 11.34 euros. Yet many people do not choose their old bills to change. They adhere to it or simply find the notes more beautiful than the euros of today.
The desire for the guilders is not new. Since the introduction of the euro, there has been a regular discussion about whether the Netherlands has finished financially or declined.
Opponents of the euro point to the increased prices and the loss of their own currency. Proponents emphasize the benefits, such as a stable economy and paying more internationally.
