State Secretary Jean Rummenie of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature (LVVN) will visit Japan from 8 June to 13 June 2025 in the context of Expo 2025 in Osaka. The visit is dominated by a further deepening of international cooperation in the broad field of agriculture, innovation and food security and the strengthening of the relationship between the Netherlands and Japan.
Expo 2025 takes place from 13 April 2025 to 13 October 2025. More than 150 countries and organizations present themselves here in National Pavilions to an international audience. The Netherlands participates in the World Exhibition with a completely circular pavilion. State Secretary Rummenie makes his visit because of two trade missions that take place around innovative proteins and healthy food. A trade mission will follow in September in the context of horticultural technology.

Below a number of highlights from the program.
The visit will start on Monday 9 June by opening the ‘Future Food and Health‘Symposium in Osaka, where attention is paid to current Dutch developments and international cooperation in the field of innovative proteins and healthy food aimed at the future. This symposium, in which Japanese companies and organizations also participate, was organized by the Ministry of LVVN in close collaboration with East NL on behalf of all regional development companies. The State Secretary also speaks with a representative of the National Agricultural and Food Research Organization (Naro)similar to the Wageningen University of the Netherlands
On Tuesday, June 10, State Secretary Rummenie will visit the Tomato Grower Hyogo NextFarm: with 4 hectares one of the first largest greenhouses in Japan, using the Dutch innovative horticultural model. The Grow With Intelligence event of Hoogendoorn also takes place that day at the World Expo. The event aims to explore the integration of advanced technologies such as intelligent algorithms (AI) and Vision technologies, which forms a turning point for the future of the horticultural sector.
On Wednesday 11 June, the State Secretary will visit FrieslandCampina on the Dutch Pavilion at the World Expo in Osaka. FrieslandCampina organizes the symposium “Doing Dairy Right”To further strengthen the position of the Dutch dairy sector in the region. The State Secretary will open the symposium. The State Secretary will also see one of the largest sushi tires in the world of Kura Sushi, known for his innovative approach and efforts to support sustainable fishing, where there are also rights from the exhibition of the exhibition of the exhibition of the Menu.
On Thursday 12 June, European representation in Japan is organizing an EU symposium at the Expo to promote European products and the European market. Rummenie then speaks with, among others, European Commissioner Christophe Hansen van Agriculture, who is in Japan in the context of a European trade mission. State Secretary Rummenie participates in a panel discussion about sustainability and innovation in the agricultural and food sector, together with, among others, his Irish Colleagues Minister Heydon and Dirk Jacobs van Food Drink Europe.
On Friday, June 13, Rummenie will visit the Ministry of Agriculture in Tokyo where he will be received by Minister Koizumi. He will also talk that day with Dutch agro companies that are located in Japan.
