Stadium ban for NAC fan who threw cup at referee

NAC Breda has traced the supporter who threw a plastic cup against referee Joey Kooij’s car after last Wednesday’s promotion-relegation match against FC Emmen. He confessed. “In this case it was a one-man action, in which the perpetrator has admitted guilt. He has now been imposed an environmental and stadium ban,” the Breda club reports on the club website.

According to NAC, referee Kooij has decided not to file a report. “Fortunately, the arbitrator’s car had no damage. With the confession of the perpetrator, the police have drawn up an official report. A representative of NAC contacted the referee yesterday (Thursday) to apologize for the incident on behalf of the club .”

The KNVB previously condemned the state of affairs at the stadium and said it would investigate the incident. “This kind of action is ridiculous and we believe that referees should be able to do their job safely at all times.” NAC lost the game 2-1. The referee not only had to deal with angry fans afterwards, he also had a hard time during the game due to chants directed against him.
