SSC Napoli withdraw option to buy Simeone – interest from Lazio

Loan forward with 9 goals

Italian champions SSC Napoli have signed striker Giovanni Simeone, who was previously on loan from Hellas Verona, on a permanent basis – at least for the time being. The Azzurri announced on Thursday that they had exercised their option to buy the 27-year-old Argentinian, son of ex-Serie A player Diego Simeone. This is 12 million euros, last summer a rental fee of 3.5 million euros was due. His new contract runs until 2026 with an option for another season.

In the championship season, Simeone was the reliable alternative to top scorer Victor Osimhen (24), who, according to the market value update on Thursday, is the most valuable Serie A professional in history at 120 million euros. In 33 competitive games, Simeone scored nine goals and provided one assist, including important ones like the 2-1 win over Roma at the end of January. However, the five-time national player did not bring more than joker bets.

Whether Simeone actually stays in Naples is still open. Lazio Rome is said to be interested in the goalscorer, where he could play a role similar to that at SSC behind Ciro Immobile (33). According to reports, however, no agreement has yet been reached between the clubs. Alternatives are Arkadiusz Milik (29), on loan from Olympique Marseille to Juventus, and Boulaye Dia (26), whose purchase option for US Salernitana 1919 is likely to be worth €12m.
