The Munich team achieved the plus of 114 million to now 934 million euros thanks to a strong summer of transfers – in which the players who came had a significantly higher market value than those who left – and Jamal Musiala’s rise to the most valuable German footballer.

The Munich side posted the fifth-biggest gain of 2022 despite the departure of Robert Lewandowski, who took his €45m market value to Barça, who rose by €204m to €800m.

At the top of the Premier League is Arsenal (€759m), a club whose performance is also reflected in the €197m increase in squad value. Other big winners include AC Milan (+100m to 574m), Stade Rennes (+99m to 318m) and Eintracht Frankfurt (+71m to 270m).

With a minus of 135 million euros, Manchester United (731 million) only made it to 2nd place among the biggest squad value losers in 2022, because FC Sevilla (219 million) is in much, much bigger problems than the “Red devils”. The biggest loser from the Bundesliga is VfL Wolfsburg, which fell by EUR 71 million to EUR 196 million in squad value.
