‘Squad’ launches first solar-powered city car. Cost price? Just over 6,000 euros | drive

The Solar Squad was developed by two former Lightyear employees who want to offer an affordable vehicle for the masses, the German ‘t3n’ reports. The Solar Squad from Breda, the Netherlands, can accommodate two people and should be launched on the market next year. You do not need a driver’s license for the car – which reaches a top speed of 45 km/h.

The two meters long Solar Squad should combine the advantages of a practical scooter and a small car. There is room for 70 liters of luggage and removable doors. The car is powered by two lithium-ion batteries that can be charged from standard electrical outlets and offer a range of approximately 50 kilometers.

Thanks to extra energy from the solar cells on the roof, the Solar Squad can travel about 20 kilometers a day. The base model is available for EUR 6,250 excluding VAT and can be pre-ordered for a fee of EUR 50. The most expensive version costs 9,300 euros. Later there will also be a larger vehicle with four seats and a maximum speed of 70 kilometers per hour, for which a driver’s license is required.
