The astronomical spring, which begins this Sunday, March 20, reaches the Peninsula and the islands watered by abundant rains across the country, ending a winter that has been exceptionally dry. In reality, winter rainfall has been only 45% of what is usual. Specifically, during January and February there was not even 10% of the normal rains in Spain.

AEMET forecasts indicate that during the first days of spring the rains will continue to affect all of Spain and in some points it can even exceed 100 liters per square meter. And it is that the country is under the effects of a “parade of storms” that have been arriving and successively crossing the Peninsula for days, alleviating to a great extent (but not totally) the scarcity of water that drags the field.

The same Sunday a storm will arrive in the southwest of the Peninsula which will be nothing more than a preview of what we will have during the coming week: more rains and storms practically every day of that week. Also on Sunday there will be a strong easterly wind in the Strait and in areas of the Mediterranean.

There will be a similar day on Monday., with slightly lower temperatures than during the weekend and widespread rains except in the two archipelagos. They will be more intense in the south of the Peninsula and the south of Catalonia. Tuesday will continue to be unsettled weather.

The weather will continue rainy | ben fraser

The Wednesday a new storm will appear, again in the southwestwhich will cause heavy rainfall, especially in the entire southern half of the country.

And yet, this very wet entrance to spring 2022 should not be misleading, since experts predict a warmer season than normal throughout the country, especially in the interior and the south of the peninsula, according to the specialized portal the time is.

“A Most Unsettled and Rainy Spring”

For his part, the person in charge of meteovigo.es, Rubén Vázquez, affirms: “The truth is that there are several reasons to think of a more unstable and rainy spring in our countrybut I think we have to be cautious, at least until we see how the current large-scale movements evolve & rdquor ;.

According to Vazquez, the rain pattern “is going to be very erratic this spring, with moments in which the pulsations will come with great ease and others in which we will have a more stable time. In the first half of spring, it is likely that some notable cold and snow event will be recorded.

In his opinion, the first half of spring will be rainier and the second half stormier. The most important rainfall will occur in the western and northern half of the Peninsula, especially in the first half. The south would also experience an increase in rainfall and in the second half, it would increase in the Mediterranean.

The storms will continue | FERRAN NADEU

“If the pattern of recurring blockages at high latitudes holds, when high temperatures reach the surface, the pulsations of cold air that reach us can enhance strong storms& rdquor ;, he adds.

And remember, within the uncertainty that characterizes long-term forecasts, it is likely the usual “roller coaster” effect & rdquor; of the temperatureswith values well below the average in some phases of spring, alternated with sharp rises.
