From November, premium subscriptions will also become more expensive for existing customers. What about the other tariffs?

The audio streaming service Spotify is increasing its prices again. While new customers have been paying 11.99 euros per month for the premium subscription instead of 10.99 euros since September 2025, existing customers will also have their turn from November. The last upward kick in fees occurred in October 2023.

This means that the market leader is now more expensive than the competition from Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube Music or Tidal. International industry services are speculating as to whether the competition will also “adjust” their subscription models in the future. For a few weeks now, Spotify has also been offering its users better audio quality (“lossless”).

Incidentally, for the “duo subscription” (two people), the tariffs increase from 14.99 euros to around 17 euros; for the “family subscription” (up to six people), according to forecasts from the tech services, you will have to shell out around 21 euros instead of 17.99 euros.

The “student subscription” (previously 5.99 euros) also climbs to 7 euros. Prices are also being adjusted in other regions of the world.

Spotify relies on podcasts and audio books

Just a few months ago, Spotify presented its expansion plans in the area of podcasts and audio books in its Berlin branch. However, Spotify Premium only includes 15 hours of audio book enjoyment per month; That’s not enough for a thick tome.

The price increase is likely to be particularly necessary because Spotify recently suffered a net loss of 86 million euros due to higher personnel costs and tax burdens.

The service was able to report an annual profit for the first time in 2024, which is likely due to previous price increases and savings. CEO Daniel Ek, who has been at the helm of the company for almost 20 years, and his management rely on high customer loyalty in order to be able to implement the new changes without layoffs.

With over 696 million active monthly users (including 276 million paying subscribers), Spotify remains the market leader.
