Spotify dares to predict who will win

On May 14, it will be decided who will be the winner of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. The OGAE (Organization Générale des Amateurs de l’Eurovision) recently predicted that this honor would probably not go to Malik Harris, the candidate representing Germany. Spotify is now also trying to make a prediction – and based on its streaming data, it sees Italy at the top again.

Italy’s “Brividi” inspires audiences around the world

The music platform compared the worldwide streams of all Eurovision contributions in 2022 between March 2021 and April 2022. According to Spotify, the Italian contribution “Brividi” by Mahmood and Blanco is far ahead in this comparison. The track is said to be streamed five times as often as the second-placed “Hold Me Closer” by the Swede Cornelia Jakobs. The Netherlands took third place in this comparison with “De Diepte” by S10.

The count also revealed that in most of the participating countries people prefer to listen to their own contribution to the ESC. After Spotify disregarded these entries, “Brividi” is said to remain the top song in 28 out of 40 countries participating in the semifinals. That’s at least 70 percent.

Germany’s “Rockstars” streamed in 8th place worldwide

As far as this year’s contribution “Rockstars” from Germany is concerned, this should be the most popular ESC song in this country. The Germans would like to hear “Brividi” second, closely followed by “Halo”, the Austrian contribution. Malik Harris’ “Rockstars” also did particularly well in Austria, as well as in Switzerland. This year’s German contribution is currently the 8th most streamed ESC song worldwide.

Ukraine is considered a favourite

Ukraine is traded as an ESC favorite in 2022. This is also supported by the fact that, according to Spotify, “Stefania” by the Ukrainian band Kalush Orchestra is currently the most streamed foreign ESC song 2022 between March 2021 and April 2022 in five of the participating countries. This puts it as the second most frequently number 1 song, just behind the Italian entry. “Stefania” is said to have been streamed almost 6 million times worldwide on Spotify, making it number 6 in the global ESC streaming top lists.

The streaming provider Spotify had already predicted a victory for Italy last year and was right. The Italian rock band Måneskin, who will also perform in Germany in 2023, took first place with their song “ZITTI E BUONI”.
