The Monza racetrack turns 100 and Sportweek celebrates it, on the eve of the Italian Grand Prix, with a special to read. Mattia Binotto, Ferrari team principal, tells us about his special relationship with one of the most iconic tracks in the world: “In 1995 on this circuit my first day of school. It was my grandfather who taught me to love racing, I was rooting for Gilles Villeneuve and Formula 1 got into me. What years (and how many football matches) with Schumi: after the victory in 2003 they withdrew my license, I was too euphoric… ”.

Greetings Monza

The 100 years of the Monza circuit Sportweek also tells them with a succession of anecdotes, stories and curiosities: triumphs, invasions, sovereigns, and then dramas, champions, great challenges. The racetrack, inaugurated on September 3, 1922, among royal families, expeditions to the pole and immense crowds, has always been one of the temples of Formula 1: a long unique epic. Which also includes Oliviero Toscani immortalized, at the age of 10, in a memorable photo in the company of the legendary Ascari: starting from this photo he tells us about “his of him” Monza. “I loved going to the Grand Prix with my dad. He knew everyone, and everyone knew him. That’s a photo from 1952, before Ascari won the race. In a moment of pause my dad spoke to him in dialect. Uè Alberto, come whoever takes a picture with me fieu…, come here and take a picture with my son ”.
