Two-time Brazilian champion in hang gliding and a well-known paraglider Philip Haegler died Thursday afternoon in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, according to the Brazilian CNN.
Haegler lost control of his connector and crashed into a residential building at about the 11th floor.
He was seriously injured and was taken to Miguel Couto Hospital. However, the injuries were too severe, and the species perished from the injuries they received.
Haegler served as the president of CBVL, the Brazilian free flight association, and was considered an icon of the sport and a developer of the safety of the sport.
The Sao Conrado Freestyle Society said that it will put its activities in order for the weekend in his memory.
