Professional football clubs (BVOs) are insufficiently able to guarantee safety during matches in the stadiums, although they are responsible for this. The Dutch Sports Council stated this today in a letter to sports minister Conny Helder and justice minister Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius.
“The vast majority of BVOs are organizations that are comparable in size to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs),” says the advisory board. “As far as we are concerned, the organizational strength and size of the BVOs are not in proportion to their joint social function with an impact on millions of Dutch people.”
According to the council, people are now mainly talking about repressive measures for spectators who misbehave, while there are more underlying problems.
