Suzan Lamens wins on WTA Tour debut
9:55 pm Tennis star Suzan Lamens has graced her debut on the WTA Tour with a victory. The number 204 in the world was 6-4 1-6 6-4 too strong for the Australian Astra Sharma, who is 92nd in the world ranking in the opening round of the WTA tournament in Bogota. Sharma was placed seventh.
In the second round of the clay-court tournament in South America, Lamens will compete against Romanian Irina Bara or Paula Ormaechea from Argentina.
The 22-year-old Lamens won two qualifying matches in the Colombian capital last weekend. She is having a good season and already won an ITF tournament in Colombia at the end of March. Lamens will also join the Dutch Billie Jean King Cup in a week for the meeting with Spain in Den Bosch, while she was not included in the selection. Initially, she will only train along, but that could change.
Curling men book first victory at the World Cup at the expense of Italy

Tierney misses rest of season with Arsenal

Belgian Grand Prix in Formula 1 is already almost sold out

Japanese speed skater Nana Takagi stops after disappointing Games
07:38 am: Japanese speed skater Nana Takagi has ended her career after the disappointing Olympic Games in Beijing. Takagi, 29, crashed into the final corner of the team pursuit final as Japan headed for gold. A few days later, she also fell in the same corner during the semi-finals of the mass start.
Four years earlier in Pyeongchang, Takagi had taken gold in both areas. The Japanese became the first Olympic champion in the mass start in South Korea. Irene Schouten succeeded her in Beijing.
Takagi won three world titles with the Japanese pursuit team led by Dutch national coach Johan de Wit, in 2015, 2019 and 2020. Her younger sister Miho won four medals at the Beijing Winter Games. In addition to silver in the team pursuit, the 500 and 1500 meters, the 27-year-old Japanese won gold in the 1000 meters, beating Jutta Leerdam.
