Spookslot 1978-2022: luckily we still have the photos

The Spookslot, one of the oldest attractions of the Efteling, will be a thing of the past after the summer holidays. The attraction, built in 1978, is being demolished and makes way for a new attraction. As a souvenir a collection of beautiful photos.

The Spookslot was the first major attraction after the Fairytale Forest. The attraction is the ruins of an ancient Celtic castle, in which visitors can watch a show accompanied by French composer Saint-Saëns’ Danse Macabre.

According to Eftepedia, a theme park information website, there have been three versions of the main show since the attraction’s inception, in 1978, 1987, and 1989, which also featured three different versions of the Danse Macabre.

The website also writes that the church clock that strikes twelve at the start of the show is a recording of the clock of the Goirkese Church in Tilburg.

A collection of photos of the Haunted Castle:

The attraction is being replaced, because according to the Efteling it was no longer so popular among visitors in recent years. Despite this, it rained on Monday with shocked reactions to the demolition of the Spookslot. Many Efteling fans find it a pity that such an old attraction is lost. That is why many share photos of the Spookslot on social media.
