SPLIT DECISION: Dave and Central Cee release collaborative EP

The record will be released on the 25th birthday of the two rappers, which is (almost) the same day.

On Monday (June 5th) the surprise EP SPLIT DECISION by the two UK rappers Dave and Central Cee was released. The two already had the single last Friday (June 2nd). “Sprinter” with music video published. The reason for the unusual publication on a Monday is the 25th birthday of the artists who were on Monday (Dave) or Sunday (Central Cee). The first joint work by the rap stars contains four tracks. In terms of sound, they mostly rely on their well-tried drill sound and tried-and-tested flows. But that doesn’t detract from the vibe of the record, because Dave and Central Cee deliver on the microphone and convince above all with their common chemistry.

Lyrically, they expand their horizons by rapping about their lives in a self-reflective way. Not exclusively, of course: A good portion of flex also finds its place on SPLIT DECISION. The instrumentals should come across as standard to UK rap listeners. The brute bass paired with the drill rhythms heat up properly despite inflationary use. The EP lasts more than thirteen minutes, but only partially satisfies the two’s hunger for new music. Dave in particular, who released his current record WE’RE ALL ALONE IN THIS TOGETHER in 2021 and only a handful of singles last year, would make his fans happy with a full-length record. Central Cee’s latest single “Me & You” dates from February 2023.
