Spinnova signs UN Global Compact

Sustainable textile company Spinnova has joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, bringing together more than 14,000 companies and over 3,000 non-governmental organizations in over 160 countries.

The UN Global Compact promotes the ecological, social and economic responsibility of companies and non-profit organizations. The initiative calls for a commitment to ten generally accepted principles of the UNGC and calls for action in support of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Commitment extends to human rights, labor, environment and corruption

By signing the UNGC “Letter of Commitment”, the Finnish company commits itself to sustainable principles and improvements in the areas of human rights, working conditions, the environment and anti-corruption.

“Our sustainable fiber innovations support several SDGs, and it is a matter of course for us to specifically commit to the principles of the Compact. We are honored to make this commitment and stand with the United Nations and the involved community,” commented Janne Poranen, CEO and co-founder of Spinnova, in a press release.

The commitment means that Spinnova will integrate the UN Global Compact and its principles into its strategy, corporate culture and operations, and engage in collaborative projects that advance the wider UN development goals, and in particular the SDGs.

To support public accountability and transparency, Spinnova also commits to reporting on its progress within one year of joining the UNGC and annually thereafter.
