Bavaria Alonso wanted to have before – now he could be available in 2025. Should the Kompany club replace the successes in the Bundesliga?
Vincent Kompany has delivered – at least in the Bundesliga. After a difficult initial phase, FC Bayern not only found Konstanz under the new trainer, but also set the next exclamation mark in the title race with the 4: 0 against Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday. Bavaria is eight points ahead of Leverkusen after the 23rd matchday.
So everything is good? Not quite. In the big moments of the season it became clear that not everything is still running round.
The team fell several times in the Champions League, and it has already been eliminated in the DFB Cup. The doubts about the long -term Kompany solution have not completely disappeared – especially because there is a coach that Bayern would have liked to get last year.
Xabi Alonso decided to remain in Leverkusen at the time. A gold decision? Bayer plays another strong season, has the best chance of at least one title despite the deficit in the league and is tactically outstanding. Only a week ago, Alonso and his team dominated Bayern, even if it was not enough for a win (0-0).
In the round of 16 of the Champions League, Alonso has the next chance in March to demonstrate his skills and to throw FC Bayern out of competition in direct duel.
It would not be the first time that Bayern put a successful coach with the prospect of a possibly even better one. In 2013, those responsible decided to commit Pep Guardiola, although Jupp Heynckes had success – and ultimately even brought the triple to say goodbye.
In addition to Bavaria, Real Madrid was also interested in Alonso in addition to Bavaria, but Carlo Ancelotti also seems to be going on this season. This leads to the question of whether Bayern should try an Alonso start again or trust Kompany for the future.
