Special car of Princess Diana under the hammer

A Ford Escort that Britain’s Princess Diana drove in the 1980s is up for auction at Silverstone this weekend. She owned the black car between 1985 and 1988. It is the only RS Turbo Series 1 Escort ever made in that color.

The car is expected to fetch at least £100,000 (118,000 euros). Initially, the Ford Escort was delivered in white. But at the request of Diana’s security guards, the car was then repainted, because Diana would be less noticeable in a dark car.

The Escort has 25,000 miles on the clock, about 40,000 kilometers. Next week it will be a quarter of a century since Princess Diana died in a car accident in a tunnel in Paris. She was being chased by paparazzi on motorcycles at the time.

Another vehicle up for auction this weekend is a Rolls-Royce once owned by Bee Gees singer Maurice Gibb, and a Range Rover driven by former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
