SPD party congress gives 100 percent for Giffey

From Hildburg Bruns

Just six months ago, the party was only 59 percent behind the governing mayor, Franziska Giffey.

From 59 percent to full support. You rub your eyes. Did the same delegates who voted for their party leader Franziska Giffey (44) with a measly 59 percent just under half a year ago now agree 100 percent with the course of the government?

Indeed. Because even the rebellious Jusos know: In February, when the expected repeat elections are held, power in the Red City Hall, in the Senate and in Parliament is at stake. That welds together. “A difference like day and night,” says Giffey of the BZ about the dream result.

In polls, it is currently a head-to-head race between the Greens, CDU, SPD – and the Socialists are never ahead. “We can get that again,” Giffey cheers on her comrades.

She shoots in the direction of Bettina Jarasch (53), top candidate and Senator for Transport, says about …

… their propagated cat wash: “We don’t do slobbery politics. The tip is no help, that’s mockery.”

… their cycle path balance sheet: “You look at the statistics and then maybe someone will finish. It has to be clear who stands for flower dreams and who does what they say.”

The SPD politician emphasizes that nobody has leased the traffic turnaround, saying: “But I need one that works. We did the 29 euro ticket for Berlin.”

Despite the election campaign, Red-Green-Red is still working. On the night before the party congress, the faction leaders sat together until 2:30 a.m. The result is a lookup for the supplementary budget. Another 400 million euros in extra expenditure makes a total of 3 billion euros for relieving Berliners in the energy crisis.

What’s new?

75 million euros for Berliners who heat with oil, pellets and coal. It should be possible to apply for the grants from the Investment Bank (IBB), details are still being clarified. SPD co-leader Raed Saleh (45): “So far, around 300,000 households have been forgotten by the federal government in the relief.”

13 million compensation for a rent freeze at the student union. An additional 300 million euros for the construction and renovation of schools.

“Funds that cannot be spent in a year will no longer expire,” says Education Senator Astrid-Sabine Busse (65, SPD).
