A player of the “Red Furie” is the goal of a whistle concert by the audience in Stuttgart. These still remember a notorious scene.

When Spain’s national team in Stuttgart went to the semi -finals of the Nations League against France, the reception was particularly frosty for a player: Marc Cucurella was loudly booed by parts of the audience. FC Chelsea’s full -back was the focus again – almost a year after his controversial scene at the European Championship.

At that time, the 26-year-old got into the spotlight in the quarterfinals against Germany after a possible handball remained unpunished by him. Jamal Musiala shot the ball from a short distance from Cucurella’s arm. However, the expected penalty whistle failed to materialize – for the horror of the German players and fans. The scene caused discussions across Europe, because referee Anthony Taylor from England continued to play. For many, Cucurella became the face of this decision – although the responsibility was at Taylor. The DFB-Elf resigned, Spain later won 2-1 after extra time and ultimately won the European Championship title.

Even now, many fans in Stuttgart were irreconcilable. Already when the team was introduced before the game started, when Cucurella’s name was called. The defender was also whistled in the early minutes of the game with every touch of the ball.

Before the game, the Spaniard had shown himself to be calm. When asked about the foreseeable reaction, he said: “I am prepared to be booed again.”
