Spain meets Wiegman’s England in European Championship quarter-finals, Germany wins again | NOW

Spain is the opponent of England coach Sarina Wiegman in the quarter-finals of the European Championship. The Spanish team defeated Denmark 1-0 on Saturday and took the second ticket for the quarter-finals behind the clear group winner Germany.

A place in the last eight was the stake of the game between Spain and Denmark. Spain would already become England’s next opponent in a draw, but even took three points. Marta Cardona headed in the only goal of the game in the ninetieth minute.

Spain-England is a big bill in the quarterfinals. Before the start of the tournament, Spain was one of the contenders for the overall victory, but – partly due to the absence of the injured star players Alèxia Putellas and Jennifer Hermoso – did not yet make a very strong impression.

England, on the other hand, is in great shape. Wiegman’s team has already scored fourteen times in this tournament for its own audience and has also won all group matches.

In the other game in Group B, Germany did not hold back against Finland. Although the Germans could not miss the group win, the team of national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg won convincingly thanks to hits from Sophia Kleinherne, Alexandra Popp and Nicole Anyomi: 3-0.

Germany will meet Austria, the number two in the group of England, in the quarterfinals. The Netherlands will chase Switzerland in the last eight from 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Final standings group B

  • 1. Germany 3-9 (+9)
  • 2. Spain 3-6 (+2)
  • 3. Denmark 3-3 (-4)
  • 4. Finland 3-0 (-7)
