Spacious practice win FC Volendam in training match at De Rijp

FC Volendam scored eight goals in the first practice match of the new football season. The team of trainer Wim Jonk had no trouble at all with third division team De Rijp (8-0) in a duel over 4 x 20 minutes.

It took ten minutes before Robert Mühren opened the scoring in the first quarter. Jonk started with the A-team, but was unable to call on Filip Stankovic, Gaetano Oristanio, Bilal Ould-Chikh, Calvin Twigt and Brian Plat. In the second quarter, Koen Blommestijn, Ibrahim el Kadiri and Lequincio Zeefuik were accurate. FC Volendam goalkeeper Barry Lauwers did not have to take action.

Jonk is not worried about the mercenaries of Inter (Stankovic and Oristanio). This duo will also play for FC Volendam in the Eredivisie. Plat is still struggling with a lingering groin injury, but has been disciplined by the club. The defender became discredited after the promotion party because compromising images of him were allegedly shared on social media. The player declined to comment further. Jonk did say something about it.

After the break, a completely new team with players from Jong FC Volendam came in on the worn artificial turf of De Rijp. After a cautious start, they also managed to score four times: Tayrell Wouter, Ezechiel Fiemawhle, Billy van Duijl and Joey Antonioli passed De Rijp’s goalie.

“We played eleven against eleven for the first time. It has been a good training game for tomorrow”, Jonk said afterwards. Tomorrow FC Volendam will play another practice game. The Eredivisionist will then take on Genk on the field of Alkmaarsche Boys.

On Sunday FC Volendam leaves for Limburg for a training camp in Vaals. Almost certainly without reinforcements, although Jonk does not panic. “Hopefully we will broaden the selection soon. There is some money, but not too much. We have to row with the belts that are available.”
