Space for catering, ecolodges and canoes in southern buffer Bargerveen

The water buffer still to be built along the southern edge of the Bargerveen will provide space for various forms of recreation. In the southwest corner, along Kerkenweg near Nieuw-Schoonebeek, one and a half hectares will be made available for such initiatives.

On the eastern side of the buffer, the possibility is offered to construct ecolodges, in other words sustainable accommodation. In addition to walking and cycling paths, play areas, it is also the intention that canoes can also be launched there.

This can be deduced from a sketch for the devised water buffer that will be constructed along the southern edge of the raised moor reserve. It was presented on Monday evening in the Dorpshoeve in Nieuw-Schoonebeek.

Construction is expected to start after the summer of 2023 at the earliest, Jacomijn Pluimers and Marleen Stoutjesdijk expect from the Prolander implementing organization. The project has suffered some delay, because the first shovel was supposed to go into the ground at the end of this year.

According to Pluimers, more time was needed with regard to environmental calculations and research. “The procedure for changing the zoning plan is ongoing and the permits still need to be prepared,” said Pluimers. She therefore does not expect the tender for the immense job before the second quarter of 2023.
