The party leader of the SP finally received applause from all the members of the House of Representatives on Thursday evening. Chamber chairman Martin Bosma made jokes about it several times this week. At the end of a long series of moods on the last meeting day of parliament before the election recess, Dijk received congratulations from all sides.
But on Friday it was only for family and friends. Seventy wedding guests saw how Mechteld and Jimmy gave each other the yes. Then they were welcomed outside the town hall.
It had to be the Groningen town hall, because Jimmy and Mechteld sat together in the city council for the SP for years. They got to know each other in the Groningen party office of the SP and have been together for eleven years.

She is still a volunteer for the party and works as a lawyer for the province of Fryslân. And for him after today the election campaign really starts.
