The topic at Werder in the summer

In the summer of 2024, Albert Grønbaek decided to move from FK Bodø/Glimt to FC Stade Rennes in France, and Werder Bremen had also shown interest. Six months later, the time in Ligue 1 could finally be over. The 23-year-old Dane is joining Southampton FC on loan, and the Saints also have a purchase option.

In 18 appearances, Grønbaek, who made his debut for the Danish national team in September, had two goals and one assist for Rennes. At the start of the season, the midfielder was part of the regular lineup, but had to give up this status after the coaching change to Jorge Sampaoli. The Argentine used (24) and (27) in the attacking midfield positions in the 5-4-1 system.

The 15 million euros that were paid for Grønbaek should therefore be recouped. Southampton reportedly has a purchase option of exactly the same size. Relegation, which is currently a long way off, would increase the likelihood of staying in the English port city. After 22 match days, the Saints have just six points, the gap to the saving bank is ten points (to the table).
