The Toyota Corolla Verso, with an older couple at the wheel and their son at the back, came from the direction of Izegem. Just past the roundabout with the Kuurnsestraat it went wrong: the car drove gently off the lane, ended up in the roadside and bumped head -on against a tree.
The son was resuscitated on the spot, but died of his injuries. His parents were not very dangerous and were taken care of by the emergency services.
Due to the accident, the N36 was closed between the roundabout at the Koperen Ketel and that with the Kuurnsestraat. The cause of the accident is not yet clear, although becoming a possible unwell from the driver is not excluded.
