For Mario Martone Naples is something more than an object of constant investigation. There is also here and right away, through archival materials that take us back to the time of growth and discovery, for the author as for the protagonist of this personal and affectionate film, Massimo Troisi.
Martone declares that he loves his directorial skills more (as an exponent of a local nouvelle vague) than the talent of the comedian. The interviews with those who, like him, have been fascinated by it (Francesco Piccolo, Paolo Sorrentino, Ficarra and Picone) and with those who have studied it (Goffredo Fofi, the critics of Wild trails), alternate with eloquent still images and film fragments. Anna Pavignano who was Trosi’s partner and co-writer, provides precious unpublished materials.
