After the first defeat under coach Merlin Polzin, second division leader Hamburger SV against Düsseldorf wants to find the road to success. In Fortuna coach Daniel Thioune, Polzin meets his old teacher and friend for the first time.
“It will be a special game for me and Daniel. We have experienced a lot together, especially here in Hamburg,” said Polzin before the home game today (8:30 p.m., in the NDR LiveCenter) against the table seventh. The HSV trainer was the CO of Thioune, VfL Osnabrück for many years and then also at the traditional club in Hamburg.
“With his life experience, Daniel helped me scary to take the first steps. This still shapes my coaching existence today,” said Polzin, who calls Thiune a friend. But he made it clear: “This is a topic next to the square.”

Glatzel “Candidate for the squad and for the starting eleven”
The 57,000 fans will very likely see Robert Glatzel in action again on Saturday. Almost five months after his operation due to a tendon tear in the hip area, the 31-year-old Polzzin is available again: “Bobby is fully in training again. Like all other players who took part in the training company, he is definitely a candidate for the squad and for the starting eleven.”
Selke now the supplier
After months of rehabilitation, Glatzel got back into training two weeks ago. Operations in the games against 1. FC Kaiserslautern (3-0) and at SC Paderborn (0: 2) would have come too early for him. In his absence, Davie Selke had taken on the role of the goal supplier. The 30-year-old leads the second division goalkeeper list together with the Magdeburg Martijn Kaars with 16 goals. Until his injury, Glatzel had scored seven times in six games.
Now both are available again and Polzin has even more options to “hurt” his old teacher and friend Thioune.
