Sofie wins the competition and is now Dutch champion. “I thought it was really cool,” she says about her win. Yet it is hard work, because the young kickboxer is also just in school. “When I get home, I actually go to my room right away to do homework so that I can train again,” she says.

The gym has also become a bit of its second home, because Sofie can be found there four times a week for kickboxing lessons or strength training. And all under the roof of her great example, Jorina Baars. “She’s a legend, and so often become world champions. Really great that I can work out here and drag the title in for this gym.”

Big dreams

Sofie is now back from vacation and she is sticking to her training schedule again. She hopes to be in the ring again in a few months. “There is another gala in November, but we still have to see if an opponent is found.” There are not many girls in the same weight category as Sofie, which are also the same in terms of level.

That is why the talent secretly dreams of kickboxing against adults, but that will take another two years. “Somehow I like to play in the youth, but I am also looking forward to just participating with the adults.”
