Frans Bauer ensures a peak in the viewing figures of the program Rooijakkers over the Floor. Is this the sign for TV bosses to give the definitive green light for a soap comeback?

Nineteen years ago, RTL 4 literally ran after Frans Bauer with a blank check. After the enormous success of his real life soap De Bauers, the channel had everything for a sequel. Will it still be there now that the folk singer is approaching his fiftieth birthday? It AD reported in March that talks are being held with AvroTros.

High ratings

Viewing figure expert Tina Nijkamp thinks that this can just gain momentum now that Frans’ performance in the program Rooijakkers on the Floor last night 930 thousand viewers (21 percent market share) attracted RTL 4. This puts Art Rooijakkers in the top five of the daily viewing figures top 25, a great achievement.

Tina writes down her channel this is the sixth most watched broadcast of Rooijakkers over the Floor ever. “If Frans’s reality soap has not yet been definitively sold, I think it will certainly happen today.”

Angela hopes

AD opinion diva Angela de Jong hopes so. She writes: “With many ‘stars’ I always wonder why on earth they allow a camera team into the house and light up their entire baptismal certificate. It was not for the first time with Frans that it would be nice if he did that more often and there was a sequel to De Bauers.”

She continues: “It’s such a heartwarming family. Despite the enormous attention to which they have been exposed for thirty years, Frans and Mariska have succeeded in raising their sons to become incredibly nice (almost) adults, each with their own character.”

Luke doesn’t want to

However, the youngest son of Frans and Mariska Bauer, Lucas, is not waiting for it. Art asked the family yesterday if they see a sequel to the Bauers. Frans wants to, but Lucas says: “Please don’t. I really don’t need to be followed again, you know.”

Angela: “I totally agree with him. But it’s still a pity.”

Neither does Evert

Evert Santegoeds thinks it would be a wise decision not to do it, he says today in the podcast Strictly Private. “Yes, I don’t know. Eight episodes or so is a lot. It’s nice that those kids are grown up now and stuff, but I still think it will be a huge repetition of moves.”

He continues: “I think the memories of the first series are nice enough not to let them fade by doing it all over again. But yes, Frans wants to do all kinds of things that he used to do, also to Ahoy again, so who knows it will happen and the run-up to Ahoy is a reason to do it.

“But I don’t know if it will be a success again right away.”
