“Would I have got through with it?” Asks Fabian Knottnerus HSV team doctor Dr. Wolfgang Schillings. The content creator of the transfer market, even amateur player in the Oberliga Hamburg, made the self -experiment: How does a medical check go in professional football? You can see the result and assessment of the HSV expert and his colleagues in the athletic of the University Hospital Eppendorf in the video.

“Professional football is about a lot of money, and the clubs need to know in which physical condition the players are so that they don’t buy the cat in a sack,” says Schillings. The medical check is an important part in the handling of a transfer in professional football, which is always evident in failed changes. This examination usually lasts four to five hours and includes an orthopedic and cardiological check, a bioelectric impedance analysis, a lung function test with performance diagnosis and a strength test.

“When a player comes to the medical check, we look at the transfer market in the injury history and get a good overview,” explains Prof. Dr. Götz Welsch. This would be an indication of possible follow -up injuries. “When I see that a player has a lot of downtime, then the probability that he is injured again is the higher.”

Welsch and Schillings give deep insight into the medical check and point out special features. You can find out how Knottnerus did compared to the professionals, what the HSV team doctors recommend and why there is no existence in the classic sense, in the video of Transfer market TV.
