So it is now Hertha goalkeeper Ernst

By Roberto Lamprecht

Lucky in misfortune for Hertha goalkeeper Tjark Ernst (20) after a press shot in the test against Young Boys Bern (2: 4).

In the eighth minute, after a press shot with Swiss opponent Joel Monteiro, things rattled violently. Serious rolled on the ground for minutes, survived in great pain until the 23rd minute – but then had to be substituted.

There was great concern on the faces of those responsible for Hertha! Ernst is considered a huge goalkeeper talent and is firmly planned for the Berliners in the 2023/24 season.

Last season he made his first Bundesliga game on the last day of the game in Wolfsburg, holding on to the 2-1 draw for Berlin with an outstanding performance. The wolves missed out on international business, but Hertha were relegated as bottom of the table…

This season, Ernst is considered a challenger for newcomers Marius Gersbeck (28), who is probably intended as number one for the 2nd division. The previous number one Oliver Christensen (24 / market value: 4.5 million) is still to be sold.

The Dane should no longer be injured, canceled the test in Switzerland with slight muscle problems and was rested in Berlin. Christensen is currently flirting heavily with Italy’s first division club Fiorentina. A change seems possible.

How serious is Ernst’s injury?

Even before the return flight from Switzerland at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday evening, the first all-clear was given that at least there was no serious injury. Ernst obviously has a big bruise on his foot and ankle, was treated in Berlin on Sunday and is being examined further. The timing of returning to exercise will depend on when the pain subsides.

On Wednesday, however, Ernst will fly to the training camp in Austria. It will be exciting to see if goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow (31) will also be there.

The keeper had to step in after the serious injury against the Swiss champions Young Boys, conceded three goals at 2:4, but shot clean. The top earner (1.5 million/year) is also to be sold.
