Smartphone manufacturer ridiculed for electric dream car with ‘V6’ and ‘V8’ engines | Car

We know Xiaomi from its smartphones, but the company has now proposed an electric ‘dream car’ that – of course – should compete with Tesla. The SU7 looks like a love child of the Tesla Model 3 and a Porsche Taycan.

When Porsche gave faster versions of the electric Taycan the additions ‘Turbo’ and ‘Turbo S’, there was already a lot of sniggering, but the Chinese telephone giant Xiaomi goes one step further. It gives the SU7 versions the additions V6 and V8. These names stand for the two electric motors on board. However, they have no cylinders and the engines are not built in a V-shape.

The Chinese brand causes a lot of hilarity with the new names. However, there is little to laugh about for the competition, because the SU7 in the most expensive version can drive about 800 kilometers on paper and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.78 seconds. This leaves the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan Turbo S behind. Xiaomi is also fully committed to fast charging: the car can ‘refuel’ for an additional 220 kilometers in 5 minutes.

How much should all that beauty cost? Xiaomi is keeping tight-lipped about this. All details should be known in a few months. We do know that the SU7 (pronounced ‘soe-tsjie’) comes in two variants: with one or two engines (which therefore has the above specifications). The cheaper variant with a single motor can still travel an impressive 668 kilometers and goes from 0 to 100 in a modest 5.28 seconds for electric cars.

Xiaomi founder Lei Jun has sky-high ambitions with the SU7 and wants his company to become one of the major players in the car market. The vehicle also has functions for ‘autonomous’ driving and has therefore taken a close look at its largest American competitor. It is not known whether and when the SU7 will come to our country. Despite the lack of information there are specialized websites who think they know that it will be for sale in China for less than 40,000 euros (the equivalent).
