The canvas fell definitively for the rotten music dome in the Asser Gouverneurstuin. A demolition company has made short work of the wooden artwork in a few hours. After twenty years of loyal service, the special stage was pounded in Mootjes and removed in a container box.
Cracking in the jaws of the grab of Sloper Bork, the first side panel flew through the air this morning. To then be pounded in pieces and crashed into a steel container. The music stage hit by fungi and wood rot turned out to be no longer saved.
Assen is therefore a work of art poorer. Because the wooden colossus had the name ‘Podium van Medea’, and was made in 2005 by monumental designer Hanshan Roebers from the Frisian Koudum. He regrets the loss of the music dome that he considered one of his most beautiful creations.
But according to the municipality of Assen, the structure could no longer be saved. The wood turned out to be affected by fungi and wood rot on all sides, making it unsafe. It has not been in the fences for a long time. After research into the state of maintenance, the municipality concluded that there was no second life for the umbrella organization. What comes back is still uncertain.
The municipality still looks at what the wishes are for a new music stage, and what else can be improved by the design of the Governorstuin. The intention is that the Stadstuin will become a socially safe, green and cultural place in the city center. In recent years, the location has been experienced as unsafe in the evening, by groups of young people hanging around and homeless people who occupy the benches. The fence is locked in the summer in the evenings.
Events that need a stage in the Gouverneurstuin in the coming season do not have to fear. The municipality has money ready, as a contribution to the costs for placing a temporary stage.
