Slomka: “Time as a trainer is over” – working at management level in the future

Without a job as a coach since 2019

Long-time Bundesliga coach Mirko Slomka has declared his coaching career over after stints at Hannover 96, Schalke 04 and Hamburger SV. “I now say quite clearly: my time as a coach is over,” revealed the 56-year-old in a “Kicker“-Interview, who recently trained as a sports manager in Switzerland.

“Studying in St. Gallen with outstanding lecturers and very interesting guest speakers awakened a passion in me and led me to the conviction: I would like to use the diverse tools that I now have at hand at a club at the management level.” Whether As a sports director or at board level is “secondary” for him.

Slomka returned to his hometown club Hannover in 2019 after relegation from the Bundesliga, but had to leave after twelve match days. Since then he has remained without a coaching commitment. His greatest successes as a coach were the runner-up in 2007 with Schalke and two Europa League appearances with 96. He was on the sidelines 230 times in the German upper house, as well as 22 games in the 2nd Bundesliga.
